Fun book to read and listen to. Lafayette goes on many adventures, lives a long time, and has a page-turning life. This is the best written, most entertaining of the biographies I have read of him. A story of a good man, trying to do the right thing, in the right way. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn’t. I agree with the American point of view on Lafayette, not the French one. The man is a hero and should be remebered as such. I feel echos of today when he gets so much grief from everyone from just trying to be reasonable. Marquis de Lafayette was a major assist in the American and French revolutions. He was treated badly after that and was in prison for quite a while. He was finally released to rural France if he didn’t return to Paris. That didn’t last long and he helped keep things calm during the overthrow of the Bourbon Dynasty of 1830.
